Role Overview :

The Assistant Director of Communications oversees internal and external communication initiatives, ensuring that all deliverables align with the agency's strategic vision, goals, and culture. You will lead a team of communications professionals to create business letters, guides, website content, newsletters, social media content, press releases, and other pieces to share key messaging and educate and engage DOR’s target audiences. You will collaborate and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to identify communication opportunities and provide clear, accurate, timely, and effective messaging.

 

Key outcomes for this role are:

  • Lead a team to draft tax letters
  • Manage one internal and two external newsletters
  • Maintain tax bulletins
  • Produce the agency’s annual report
  • Participate in a multiyear effort to redesign and maintain website content


Salary

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $75,010 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

Responsibilities include:

  • Review and evaluate organizational effectiveness, goal determination, and strategic planning, and recommend improvement.
  • Assist the Director with developing and coordinating plans, policies, resources, mission, goals, vision, and expectations for the department.
  • Guide agencies and the public regarding applicable laws and rules.
  • Assist with monitoring agency or program budget, including revenues, expenditures, and budget projections.
  • Communicate with the news and other media and respond to media questions or requests in an appropriate public relations manner.
  • Coordinate with other government officials on planning issues. 
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

  • Ability to effectively provide feedback, guidance, or corrective action to coach and develop employee skillsets.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
